King Lear
The Moore Theatre
1932 Second Ave. Seattle
Regarded by many as Shakespeare's best work, King Lear depicts an aging monarch's descent into madness as his family and country are torn apart by the ambition and jealousy of his children. As an aging patriarch slowly loses his grip on sanity, his kingdom disintegrates in the wake of his divested power. This sweeping legend depicts the devastating consequences of pride, as King Lear's hubris and his daughters' ambitions destroy not just their own family, but an entire nation as well. This production of the classic tragic masterpiece is presented by Shakespeare's Globe Theatre on tour and stars Joseph Marcell, best known for playing Geoffrey on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, in the role of King Lear.
