Tribes
ACT
700 Union St. Seattle
Billy, a deaf man raised inside the politically incorrect cocoon of his hearing parents' house, has learned to communicate by reading lips -- but it's not until he meets Sylvia, a young woman fluent in sign language and on the brink of deafness herself, that he finally understands what it feels like to be really understood. The deaf community becomes his new "tribe," which sparks both funny and fierce tensions at home. Winner of the 2012 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play, Nina Raine's Tribes comes to the Allen Theatre at Seattle's ACT starring deaf actor Joshua Castille, who's appeared in Deaf West's production of Spring Awakening on Broadway and on Freeform TV's Switched at Birth.
