Storyville Rising
Seattle Immersive Theatre
701 5th Ave N, Seattle
In 1897, New Orleans established a 16-block zone in which prostitution would be tolerated and regulated. Nicknamed Storyville, the area became the nation's only legal red-light district, and its indulgent, carnal history became the stuff of legend ... until now. Seattle Immersive Theatre has teamed up with System D Artists to create Storyville Rising, a fully immersive theater/cabaret experience which recreates New Orleans' infamous red-light district. Step right into history and get a fascinating glimpse into sex, race, power and privilege in Reconstruction-era America told through theater, historical narrative, live music, cabaret and transgressive burlesque. Original text, as well as transcripts and interviews, tell the story of this fascinating moment in history and the forces of "polite society" that sought to shut it down.
