  Woyzeck at Stage One Theater

Woyzeck

Stage One Theater
9600 College Way North Seattle

The surreal, darkly comic Woyzeck was based on a real murder case that took place in 1821 Germany, involving one of the first insanity defenses in legal history. It tells the tale of a German soldier who goes to absurd lengths to support his wife and child during hard times. Along his journey, he will perform odd jobs for an eccentric Captain in the military, and subject himself to strange experiments at the hands of a Doctor who forces him to eat nothing but peas. As these nightmarish forces began to intrude on his sanity, the soldier finally reaches his breaking point after discovering his wife is having an affair with another soldier. See George Buchner's boundary-breaking, rarely produced tale of poverty and morality in this daring Seattle Theatre Works production at North Seattle College's Stage One Theatre.
