The Liar
The Bathhouse Theater
7312 W Green Lake Dr N. Seattle
As effervescent as a bottle of Dom Pérignon, love, lies and sex bubble over in this French masterpiece from Pierre Corneille who, in addition to being one of the great French dramatists, was the 17th-century equivalent of a stand-up superstar. In his sublime comedy, Dorante, a charming, handsome pathological liar, has come to Paris seeking pleasure. He falls head-over-heels for the beautiful Clarice, but mistakes her name for that of her best friend, Lucrece. After lying his way into a world of trouble, can Dorante lie his way back out again? Broadway playwright David Ives' English-language adaptation piles on the wordplay with rhyming verse, witty allusions and puns by the metric ton. Let yourself be carried away by this Seattle Public Theater production of The Liar -- a charming, dizzying treat at The Bathhouse Theater.
