The Ghosts of Tonkin
ACT
700 Union St. Seattle
It's 1964; two countries teeter on the brink of devastation; two million lives hang in the balance; and the president's term will be toppled. But one man -- Wayne Morse, a senator from Oregon -- will fight to stop it all from happening. The Ghosts of Tonkin is a powerful drama that commemorates the 50-year anniversary of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, which gave President Lyndon B. Johnson authorization to send armed forces into Southeast Asia without a formal declaration of war by Congress, leading to one of our nation's most devastating chapters: The Vietnam War. Bellingham TheatreWorks and A Contemporary Theatre present this compelling, behind-closed-doors story, which will be followed by a post-play discussion featuring the playwright, Vietnam veterans and community leaders.
