Illyria
Taproot Theatre
204 N. 85th Street Seattle
Courtship, comedy and mistaken identity abound in Shakespeare's gloriously gender-jumbled romantic tale, which comes to the Taproot Theatre Company in musical form. This roller-coaster romp follows the misadventures of the lovesick Viola, disguised as her brother Sebastian, who gets caught in a vexing love triangle with the dashing Duke Orsino and the lovelorn Olivia after a shipwreck delivers her to the strange land of Illyria. Creator Peter Mills keeps the high-spirited hijinks of the original Twelfth Night, while adding burlesque and ballads into the mix. Songs include "Save One," "The Lady Must Be Mad," and "Cakes and Ale."
