Adapted from poet Maya Angelou's acclaimed autobiography and directed by Malika Oyetimein, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings now comes to the stage of Center Theatre in Seattle. The play chronicles Angelou's experiences from age three through the birth of her son when she was 16. Despite enduring wrenching childhood trauma and systemic racism, she finds her voice and the will to endure, eventually learning to use her identity as a source of strength and personal dignity.
