Hoodoo Love

Seattle Center
305 Harrison Street Seattle

Set in the Depression-era Memphis, Hoodoo Love is a story of resilience, longing and passion set to the blues music of the American South. It follows Toulou, a young black woman trying to pursue her dream of becoming a blues singer after escaping the Mississippi cotton fields. Then she falls for a rambling, silver-tongued, blues lover, the notorious Ace of Spades, and finds that the best-laid plans are seldom clear or easy. Written in vivid language that captures the blues, Hoodoo Love was penned by award-winning playwright -- and Memphis native -- Katori Hall (The Mountaintop). The term "Hoodoo" refers to the traditional African American folk spirituality and healing traditions from West Africa, that can be used to alter the fortunes of its practitioners. Sound Theatre Company presents the production in partnership with The Hansberry Project at Center Theatre in Seattle.
