Freedom Train
Tacoma Musical Playhouse
7116 Sixth Avenue Tacoma
Born a slave in 1822, Harriet Tubman made a daring escape from her Maryland plantation at the age of 25, trekking north through forests and wilderness and hiding out in the homes of sympathetic Quakers. After she reached safety, Tubman returned to the South 19 times to guide over 300 slaves to freedom along a secret escape route that came to be known as the Underground Railroad. This historical musical at Tacoma Musical Playhouse uses period dance, dialog and music to tell the story of this incredible, courageous figure.
