Arcadia
Renton Civic Theatre
507 S 3rd St. Renton
Deemed "the greatest play of its time" by London's The Independent, Tom Stoppard's Arcadia seamlessly blends philosophical discussion with down-to-earth emotion. It's a play alive with ideas, but the human characters are never lost or diminished. Quite the opposite, they are somehow made more real by their participation in a conversation that seems to span centuries. Set in a sprawling English country estate owned by the Coverly family, Arcadia moves between the 19th century and the present taking the viewer through a series of love stories. The characters from both eras discover connections, unearth mysteries and unravel hidden truths. Running at the Renton Civic Theatre, the audience sees the action in both time periods, while the characters -- even as they begin to share the same stage -- weave past each other in a complicated dance, never able to connect because they are lost in time.
